5 Careers to Avoid for INFP Personality Types

The INFP (Introversion, iNtuition, Feeling, Perception) is one of the 16 personality types according to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and comprises about 4% to 5% of the human population. An individual with this personality type is on e who is idealistic and highly creative; a passionate person who focuses on finding value on what he or she does. These can be writers, psychologists, graphic designers and musicians. While there are numerous careers for INFP individuals, there are also fields of profession that do not fit this personality. Here are four careers they should avoid:

Career in Medicine

Not that an INFP individual should not choose a career in health care but being the passionate and emphatic person he or she is, being a doctor of medicine might not be the apt career for this individual. This is because as a doctor, life-and-death decisions should be made and if feelings will take over, this can be a problem. Also, doctors need to be less emphatic and use logic in their professions. A person with an INFP personality will not find fulfillment in a career where he or she is expected not to deal with emotions.

Career in Banking or Finance

INFPs are introverted people and will prefer to work in solitude and interact less with people. If he or she will work in a bank or any financial institution, the job will require them to deal with bank clients, whether on the phone and face-to-face. This is a type of career where logic is essential and emotions are not necessary. INFPs tend to deal with their feelings and find it stressful to be talking to many people, making this career unfit for them.

Career in Business Process Outsourcing

People with the INFP personality are not good at taking criticisms and more often than not, get less motivated to work if they get condescending remarks from people or dealing with irate customers. These two are normal occurrences working in BPO, not to forget having to deal with calls that can reach up to a hundred in just single shift. This can be too stressful for INFPs.

Career in Entrepreneurship

INFPs are creative people looking for value in anything they do and being entrepreneurs can work if they have other sources on income to augment whatever profit they get .This is because for INFPs, acquiring money is not really their goal but self-fulfillment. If INFPs will go into entrepreneurship, they might not be able to cope up financially and this can be a problem in the long run.

Career in Law

When it comes to fighting for rights and be advocates for causes, INFPs can be good at these and be happy to do this. However, if he or she becomes a lawyer, years of education are needed and this can be a struggle for people with this type of personality since a variety of laws need to be studied. Moreover, lawyers sometimes have to go against their values and principles to win cases and save the clients they represent. If INTPs choose the field of law, they might have to bend their principles and put ethics in line and if these things are imposed on them, they will not be happy about these.
